Taking risks for a great shot

I'm following along with "31 Days to Releasing Your Inner Artist" over at Katie Lloyd Photography.

The first assignment is to either take or share a shot where I had to get out of my comfort zone.

I actually couldn't find the photo that immediately came to mind (it would help if I could remember what year it was), but this one is a pretty good example too.

This shot was taken in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. We parked on the non-existent shoulder of a busy and winding mountain road, and I climbed down the steep bank you can see on the right side to stand on a rock with the water swirling around me. I'm sure all the people driving by thought I was a lunatic, and it's WAY out of my comfort zone to have my precious camera anywhere near the water, especially when there's a significant risk of me falling in the water.
It was all worth it for this shot though since I love it so much!

Now go on over to Katie's blog and check out the 31 days to releasing your inner artist series and other bloggers' responses to this question.
